Bridgeman Artist

COPELAND, MARK

Biography

Mark Copeland was born in 1956. He went to Cambridge School of Art from 1973-4 and then Canterbury College of Art from 1974 –77 to study Graphic Design. Mark was then apprenticed for four years to the Suffolk artist Tom Taylor. He subsequently worked as a model maker. His experience as a model maker, particularly after working on the film of 'The Borrowers', has influenced his painting considerably. The pictures often feature outsize objects, such as a tea pot hovering above Boston Harbour or a cabbage floating under Tower Bridge. Mark paints in oils on canvas and his work is witty, colourful and highly original.
