Biography
The name Belvoir means “beautiful view” and dates from Norman times. The castle itself possesses one of the most remarkable interiors of the 19th century, from the Elizabeth Saloon to the State Dining Room. Below the terrace of the sloping lawn is the Statue Collection laid out round a central fountain and includes works by Caius, Cibber-Sculptor to Charles II. The castle also contains a wonderful collection of French furniture, Italian sculpture, porcelain, tapestries and silk as well as paintings by Gainsborough, Holbein, Poussin and Reynolds.
