Palma, Gabriel

Biography

Gabriel Palma was born in Los Angeles, California. He began drawing at an early age but did not pick up a paint brush until he was 18. Growing up in a large family of 9, his parents didn't have much money to send him to art school, so his parent’s bought him art books and art supplies, causing him to spend his days reading books about painting and teaching himself how to paint. When he was 23 years old, he met Hungarian Artist Csaba Markus. Csaba recognized a natural ability in Gabriel but encouraged him to work hard. Since then, Gabriel has participated in group shows all across Southern California, as well as having received publications on his work. He had recently finished a residency in Laguna Beach working along side Gail Poltorak and Esther Jacks at Quorum Gallery, Laguna’s oldest standing gallery. In addition, Gabriel has also finished his first collaboration with Editorial Pulpo, a Puerto Rican publishing company where in which Gabriel has done his first book cover with the publishing house. Gabriel paints in many different styles, but his style has honed into honoring the influences of Van Gogh, Cezanne and Picasso. He attempts to discover images by exploring the world that exists between representationalism and cubism, where those two lines meets, all while employing fauvist color. Within the shapes, he endeavors to find transitions that relate to one another, even though the cubist shapes are fragmented. “As I grow and evolve as an artist, so does how I paint and how I see painting. To me, the journey of life is bringing viewers along to discover the path with me.” -Gabriel
