Between 1865 and 1992 the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa took on many forms and names, adapting to New Zealand’s growing needs. The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Act 1992 solidified the national need for the institution. Te Papa’s collection highlights the diversity and rich cultural history of New Zealand as well as providing a space to discuss contemporary issues.
