Beryl Goldberg

Biography

I am a New Yorker through and through. With my photography in New York my goal is to present a positive vision of the city: the diversity, beauty and also the challenges of our life here. There is always so much to see. Much of my work has been focused here but I also have photographed in many countries around the world. I began photographing as a teacher in Brownsville, Brooklyn. I took workshops with the revered teacher Harold Feinstein as well as Lisette Model. I realized I wanted to devote my life to photography so I left teaching and decided to travel to West Africa. Thus began my life as a serious photographer. Since that time I have traveled on assignment to most of the countries of South America, West Africa, Western Europe and many countries of Asia as well as the United States. My clients have included the New York Times, Planned Parenthood, many UN and American agencies working to improve women’s health, economic development and human rights. I’ve worked with major publishers including those dealing with education. I’ve also written articles using my photographs for a variety of publications.
