BEAUVAIS, ALAIN

Biography

Alain Beauvais (born July 1943 in Argenton-sur-Creuse, France) is a French photographer whose adventurous career spans over five decades. Beauvais spent his childhood across Germany, Venezuela, and Morocco before returning to France at 15. Drawn to photography early, he apprenticed with portraitist and writer Arnaud Nagel before embarking on a 'Tour de France,' working in photo labs and studios across cities like Grenoble, Annecy, and Cannes. He eventually settled in Paris in 1968, launching a diverse career in press, advertising, and architectural photography for clients including Citroën and Vanda cosmetics. His talent for portraiture led to roles as official photographer for the Nohant and Gargilesse festivals, capturing renowned musicians. In 1970, his adventurous spirit took him on the Citroën Paris-Kabul raid, where his film won the Antenne 2 award for best reportage. He also worked as a war correspondent in Jordan, covering the Black September conflict for Gaumont Actualités. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Beauvais blended commercial work for Renault, Peugeot, and Apple with more unconventional projects, including humorous photo-novels for Hara-Kiri and Charlie Hebdo, working alongside legendary satirists like Cavanna and Coluche. His portrait work was also exhibited in Paris and New York. By the 1990s, Beauvais had established himself as a leading automotive photographer, producing striking studio imagery for Peugeot and other top brands. He also expanded into corporate campaigns, creating portrait series for companies like Bouygues Telecom and Air France, while mentoring photographers in West Africa through programs supported by the Paris Chamber of Trades. Since the 2000s, Beauvais has contributed to cultural and corporate events for the EADS Foundation and social initiatives like 'Docteur Souris' and 'Autistes sans Frontières', while serving as image curator for the NetExplo innovation platform. Passionate about capturing both human connection and the beauty of movement — from portraits to automobiles and skies — Alain Beauvais continues to explore new visual frontiers, blending photography and video.
