The collection is housed in a magnificent Georgian building which was once the Georgian Sydney Hotel. Jane Austen lived on the other side of the road from the hotel and watched Bath society come and go. The Picture Gallery consists of some truly magnificent portraits of Bath society by Thomas Gainsborough, as well as works by Turner, Guardi and Stubbs. The display of treasures collected by Sir William Holburne contains superb English and continental silver, porcelain, glass, Renaissance bronzes and maiolica.
