Biography

Harvard University’s Fogg, Busch-Reisinger, and Arthur M. Sackler Museums are three distinct and prestigious collections. The Fogg, which opened to the public in 1895, is Harvard’s oldest art museum, with galleries illustrating the history of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present, with particular strengths in Italian early Renaissance, British Pre-Raphaelite, and nineteenth century French art, including the Impressionists and post-Impressionists. The Busch-Reisinger Museum is the only museum in North America devoted to promoting exploration and critical understanding of the arts of the German-speaking countries of Central and Northern Europe, in all media and from all periods. As well as a leading collection of modern art, the Busch-Reisinger holds late medieval, Renaissance and baroque sculpture, as well as, 16th century painting and 18th century porcelain. The Arthur M. Sackler Museum features thousands of years of Ancient, Asian, Islamic, and later Indian art.
